Not everyone ships Annie/Jeff, so perhaps it doesn't mean the same thing to them as it does to you.

This. OVerdramatic secret is needlessly overdramatic

The thing is, most people do ship it and it is the pairing that tends to be used to publicize the show (which is weird for a relationship that is borderline non-canon/barely canon), so I don't think the OP is out of line for assuming.

(Anonymous) 2013-09-23 11:38 pm (UTC)(link)
Right.

(Anonymous) 2013-09-24 12:34 am (UTC)(link)
The thing is, not everyone's in fandom and ships everything. My husband watches Community with me and he doesn't see Jeff/Annie the same way I do.

(Anonymous) 2013-09-24 04:49 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, I don't know. I don't ship it. Everybody I know who watches the show IRL doesn't ship it. It's popular online, no doubt about that, but I don't know how many people who casually watch it ship it.

(Anonymous) 2013-09-23 11:19 pm (UTC)(link)
That's not how I took it? I thought the OP was just commenting on the fact that while she's like Annie and she knows a Jeff, she could never date him even though she likes the idea of them dating on the show.

I mean, I saw myself and a guy I like in a TV couple and there's no way in hell I'd date the guy IRL. (And of course the couple ended up splitting.)

(Anonymous) 2013-09-24 12:36 am (UTC)(link)
See, I read it as she doesn't want to be Annie because she ships Annie/Jeff and doesn't want to ship herself with her friend.

I was thinking the same. Just because OP ships Jeff/Annie doesn't mean the Jeff of the group does. Which I can see still being weird in OPs eyes, I guess.

But she* said in her secret that SHE ships Annie/Jeff. I bet that this self-proclaimed Jeff knows it, too. So by calling her "the Annie" when everyone else in their group has determined he's "the Jeff," it's a kind of annoying dudebro way to say that he thinks that she totally should have for the hots for him.

*assuming secret OP is the same gender as Annie

(Anonymous) 2013-09-24 02:07 am (UTC)(link)
UGH, this. I loathe Annie/Jeff. Loathe.

(Anonymous) 2013-09-24 03:01 am (UTC)(link)
Same here. I know it makes me weird in fandom, but whatever... I find it creepy. Annie is an incredibly immature YOUNG girl - intelligent, but ultimately naive. Jeff is far older, worldly, and skeevy. Britta and him are far better together... able to keep up with each other, Britta able and willing to call him on his shit. Annie just worships him and idolizes him and has a silly schoolgirl crush on an older almost-father figure. The fact that Jeff encourages this CREEPS ME THE FUCK OUT.

But I also know a lot of older men who desperately want young barely-legal innocent young girls so I know firsthand that this is fucking skeevy and gross. I can't even get over that long enough to ship fictional characters.

(Anonymous) 2013-09-24 11:19 am (UTC)(link)
I think I would've liked it better had they actually not played it as skeevy, and if they'd waited a few seasons when Annie was a little less naive and Jeff a bit less skeevy. Instead they jumped right to it in the first season finale, and in the second season the hints to it were very skeevy and twisted. "Santa Baby" anyone?

(Anonymous) 2013-09-24 04:50 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, same here. Hate Annie/Jeff like CRAZY. (And, no, I'm not in the Jeff/Anybody, Annie/Anybody crowd...)
