Re: Any neopagans here?
I imagine half the people here have parents older than that.
Get a real religion pls.

Re: Any neopagans here?
When I've studied religion in school, I've learned about Judaism, Christianity, Islam, Hinduism, Buddhism, etc. I never learned about Wiccan, Satanism, and Scientology.
At the end of the day, some belief systems are considered more legitimate than others.
Re: Any neopagans here?
Culturally valid, but doesn't make the yelling at Stella come off very well.
Re: Any neopagans here?
Also, people of the same religion can often have very different beliefs and practices. There are different branches of Islam and different denominations of Christianity, for example. I don't understand why you think there's ~one right~ way for your religion.
But if you want to whine about kids on tumblr being interested in your 1950s-created cult and insult me for liking shitty anime, you go right on ahead.
Re: Any neopagans here?
As for whether or not something is a cult is pretty much a matter of opinion. If you look up cult in the dictionary, Wiccan fits the definition pretty well.

I was just pointing out that the world regards some religions as more "legitimate" than others. The major world religions didn't start out as "legitimate." For the most part, people considered them weird and heretical. In other words, they all had to earn their cred.
The fact of the matter is that most people in the world don't really consider Wicca to be a "legit" religion. I just found it interesting that she's whining about people becoming interested in her small and not very well-regarded religion.

Re: Any neopagans here?
(Anonymous) 2013-09-24 02:27 pm (UTC)(link)radical beliefs that are extreme and exclusive
following one person who takes advantage of these people
these people being hyper controlled in their normal lives
ultimately psychologically (or physically) dangerous
Wicca is even legally defined as a religion in the US. Some old dictionaries may not have gotten that memo yet, but it is a religion. And frankly, fuck you for trivializing the religion of probably a million people.
