Mid-twenties. Even though I do generally use the term "kid" IRL to refer to anyone from preschool to college age, I see a pretty huge difference between a 6-year-old and a 16-year-old (or 19, which OP apparently is). Of course there are idiot teenagers, but then there are idiot adults too. I just didn't think OP came off as one of those idiots or even deserving of scorn.

Of course, I know I'm years younger than some people here, but I also know I'm the same age or older than some others whose views on this differ from mine, so I don't think my opinion on this is likely to change dramatically anytime soon. Maybe I've just seen some really mature people years younger than me in some of my fandoms, so I'm more inclined to defend OP on this. I'm just surprised that I'm apparently in the extreme minority here, and feel kind of sorry for the OP receiving so many condescending/mocking comments.

Hah. I used to see really mature people in fandom all around me, until I got older and realized they weren't as mature as I'd thought.

Eh, I mean mature in relation to the common stereotype of shrieking, yaoi-obsessed weeaboos associated with that age group in fandom, not that I'm so deeply impressed that I've become some sort of white knight/champion of youth (which I'm afraid I'm coming off like now).

What I was trying to get across, anyway, was that it just seems like a lot of vitriol for a pretty harmless, non-confrontational secret.

Slightly OT but when I was 15 I had a bunch of online friends ranging from 26-50s and dear god the relationship drama. That was the least mature group of people I've ever associated with.

I'm almost 30 and now a spate of relationship drama is usually how we ferret out the people too young to be in our comms (per TOS).

Oh, huh. I don't think this was that. We mostly got together on the old MSN chatrooms, and they knew how old I was. They pressured me for pics, too. It was a fucked up time.

I don't see what anyone's been saying as scornful or mocking, condescending sure. It's kinda hard not to come off kinda condescending when someone is going on about "nostalgia childhood for yesteryear" when yesteryear was less than 5 years ago and they're technically still in childhood.

This all just seems like verbal eye-rolling at teenage melodrama.
