Re: Any neopagans here?

for fuck's sake.

Say someone is a Christian. That's fine. Do we demand that they follow THE WHOLE BIBLE and stone women and gays, etc, otherwise how DARE they call themselves a real Christian? I hope most Christians cherry-pick a little bit, and find a personal path with Christ and God, while using religion as a template. Yet you're the one saying that to be ~real~ you'd have to have discipline by doing everything, whether or not you feel it's right. That's the downfall of strict organized religion, and that's why yes, it is absolutely fucking important to find find your own spiritual peace - doesn't mean you don't get to identify as that religion anymore.

Talking about Wicca, this whole discussion gets even more pathetic. Wicca can't even blame thousands of years of tradition, because it's like, all of sixty years old. "Traditional Wicca" is a misnomer. Sure, Gardner brought the term into popularity and it spread, and that's okay.

No, not everyone can suddenly call themselves a Wiccan - though there's very little canon (despite what you claim), there are basic pillars that every Wiccan, eclectic or traditional, would follow. But whether you like it or not, Wicca is recognized as a religion NOT defined by BTW, in fact, with the vast majority being eclectic.

And frankly, who are you to judge OP? You have no idea what kind of person she is, or what her beliefs are. However, you've made your character quite clear, and I feel very comfortable with judging you.

You just equated a covenless eclectic Wiccan to..

models wearing feather headdresses.

maybe the problem is in your comprehension?

I thought hipsterism was when you went around boasting that you were into it before it went mainstream and got ruined by popularity

:)

Hipsters also sometimes abandon stuff they liked just because it got "too mainstream" and purposefully choose the most obscure things as something they "like" just to be hip and different.

Who says all who identify as Wiccan don't believe in dual god/goddess? Or recognize the holidays? You seem to presume a lot from nothing. I think my metaphor was pretty clear - you deny people the opportunity to find their own way using religion as a template, and frankly, not belonging to a coven is a very, very small change compared to the average Christian, who I imagine you also think "shouldn't bother, how dare they even call themselves that." You are demanding that people take everything in a religion or nothing, which is a bigger issue than just Wicca, and there is something pretty messed up in your way of thinking.

And yes, there is a huge fucking difference between a model wearing a feather headdress, and eclectic Wiccans being Wiccan. I can't believe you'd even stoop to that comparison, because it's so fucking ridiculous and I don't even know how your mind went that way. Except that maybe you want to pretend you're persecuted. And of course, special.

And you're equating Jesus dying for the sins of humanity to... what Wiccan equivalent? Belonging to a coven? I agree that you're not automatically a Wiccan because you think God is a chick and want to do magic spells. But Wicca doesn't have as much canon as you claim it does, and certainly not in relation to Christianity. What's more is it's such a new religion that there's going to be evolution and disagreement and differing interpretations. You can't even claim tradition and history as an excuse.

Point being, there are a lot of people out there who identify as Wiccan, and might not believe the same thing as you - and their faith is NO less valid than yours. Frankly, you can keep the "holier than thou" attitude, it's not going to stop Wicca from being something you don't like.

The New Testament is pretty adamantly anti-stoning.

Also I don't see Stella condemning certain people calling themselves "pagan." She has a problem with them calling themselves "wiccan." Kind of like how I have a problem with people calling themselves "christian" when they ignore giant chunks of the New Testament and buy into that Prayer of Jabez bullshit. But I'm not Pope of All Christians, and Stella isn't Queen of the Wiccans, so our individual opinions don't exactly oppress you. Hell, you said it yourself, most agree with you.

Calm down.

Honestly. Stella is the one who came in here and tried to invalidate people's faith, being an all around dick about her "traditional" religion, stop white knighting her against much deserved backlash. Opinions get feedback and not all of it is "Oh, you think I'm a horrible person and not actually my religion because of your experience? Thanks for sharing!".

How do you... not know that stupid opinions merit backlash, of all people.

Hahaha. Dude.

One person on the internet can't invalidate your faith. Your faith is your own. But you have to accept that on a public forum people are going to discuss what you say you believe. She has as much right to complain about "eclectic Wiccans" as you have the right to complain about "British Traditional Wiccans."
