Re: I killed a mouse, and it's silly, but I feel irrationally sad and guilty about it.
(Anonymous) 2013-09-24 07:45 am (UTC)(link)The "mice are cute" vs "mice are pest" is a real dilemma though.
Although I don't think this should anything to do with you eating meat or not, being hypocrite or not. Most of the people have a line in regard to how comfortable are they with killing animals. You have find one of your lines I think.
Completely unnecessary and useless anecdotes/examples below:
(My mother can make delicious dishes from rabbit, but can't make herself to actually eat them. I once got nausea when I faced with the products made of horse-meat in a market. I cook, but the few times I had to actually cut the neck of the duck or chicken, I felt like shit, and it's a complete idiotic thing on itself, in spite of my (usually) strong affection towards birds. My childhood best friend's father was a hunter. My best friend saves every bug or insect she can and refuse to use chemicals to get rid of them, she tries every natural, not-really-harmful diversive tactic she can. My other friend is vegetarian and she and her boyfriend raise their daughter to respect even the plants. And so on, and so on, and so on...)
