Oh my GOD that would be the worst. Sibyl/Vimes OTP 4-Evah! Now, Nobby/Fred, I could see. (Not that I'd want to.)

A slashpair I'd like to see in Discworld would have to be Rincewind/Luggage. Or Cheery/Angua. OK, I'm insane. X-D

I have to confess, though, I would have loved to see Lu-Tze/Lobsang. I am SO not down with Lobsang-Jeremy/Susan Sto Helit.

And I am extremely fond of Brutha from Small Gods. He desperately needed someone to be slashed with, but there was nobody handy-- Om was in tortoise form, so it just didn't pan out. Plus Vorbis equals ugh.

Well I can't say I agree with most of these slash ships, but I agree about Susan and Lobsang. That felt really out of the blue.

The only time I've even vaguely considered writing Discworld fic was when I decided I wanted an AU scene where instead of taking a chocolate bath, Unity made out with Susan in a chocolatey fashion. So wrong ;_;

Right, but at least most people I meet are good enough about Sybil (I confess that I go weak at the knees for Sybil/Vimes/Vetinari), but I don't want it to become the dominant ship and have it turn up where ever I look. And I especially don't want a large influx of OOC shipfic which so often accompanies large fandoms, which is what might happen, should the TV series be made.

Tbh, I used to be pretty okay with the ship until I read this fic which not only totally missed the point of Night Watch, but also had Sam blatantly cheating on Sybil, which actually made me feel physically sick. Anymore of fics like that, I think I'd leave fandom screaming.

Have you actually seen fic for the three? Because I could go for that, but most of the fic I've seen is V/V set after her death or something similar.

I love Vimes/Vetinari, but so, so few people do it right. I'd agree with you about fearing the influx of bad Vimes/Vetinari, though.

I love the idea of Vimes/Vetinari, but it has to be either pre-Sybil, S/V/V or take place in an AU where S/V never happened. I hate the fics where Vimes is cheating on Sybil or she gets killed off to make way for the slash.

I've seen a couple of S/V/V fics on ao3 and maybe two pre-Sybil V/V, but the rest is just awful.

But people have already been shipping Vimes/Vetinari for years. The first Discworld fic I ever came across was that, and that was at least a decade ago. I can't imagine a show, if it really happens (is there concrete news on it? last I heard was really vague), will make that much of a difference. Although if more people ship it, maybe there's more chance of people writing it well? I don't know, I guess it would be different if they cast someone really popular that would draw in a bunch people who aren't already fans, but I just can't imagine that a show would make that much difference in the size of the fandom.

Rofl. You do know that people ship Vimes/Vetinari already, right? Maybe because they are immensely shippable in the books. I mean, don't ship them if you don't want to, but don't behave as if it's some bizarre nonsensical ship that only ~stupid show fangirls~ would like.

Seriously though, I get what you mean. I reckon once casting happens, everyone will go nuts. Kinda makes we wish they'd leave it all alone. The movies were enough for me, why sully such a brilliant series further?

I've kind of been a Vimes/Vetinari shipper for a while now. Mostly because a) Guards Guards, b) Jingo, and c) Night Watch. Considering the amount of their interactions they spend angering, confiding in, defending or manipulating each other, and how much they've basically shaped each other from the ground up over the years, I think it's not that surprising.

However, there's a slightly different feeling to shipping between book fandoms and live-action fandoms? And with adaptations, there's almost always a difference in feel in the character interactions. I suspect bookverse ships and showverse ships would probably develop different feels as well, even if they were nominally about the same pairs. Look at things like Javert/Valjean from Les Mis, for example.

So long as my bookverse characters keep feeling like themselves in bookverse fic, I won't be bothered, essentially.
