It's been kind of creepy from the get-go with Duncan and Kyle. I mean, Duncan basically sexually assaulted Kyle outside the gay bar (extorting a kiss from him) so there have been undertones of this all along.

I read this comic because it's so awful I can't stop

(the worst part may be where the author who is a grown man pretends to be a small child who doesn't understand what is happening in the sex scenes and calls dicks 'thingies'. IT IS A CRINGE GOLDMINE)

"All right. So I’ve come to terms with the fact that I’m not getting ninjas or giant robots in this scene. (Which I still feel is a missed opportunity but, you know, WHATEVER!) So I might as well try to understand what’s going on here. Now, at this point, both Kyle and The Annihilator are completely naked, right? And it seemed like they were wrestling… or something… But now I’m thinking they are smushing their, um, thingys together and that makes them feel… good? Am I understanding that correctly? And so that’s why they’re not fighting robots right now? I’m really trying to understand this kissy stuff so please let me know if I’m reading this wrong!"

That's the author pretending to be ten years old because it's cute or funny or something. I am not kidding about awful.

OP here. The author's interaction with the readers feels like a large of the problem here, yes. I've read much worse in fanfic (duh), but haven't been nearly as troubled by it. But the dodgy, dodgy plot and characterizations combined with the author's righteous campaigning and the kiddie-talk... Ew! Yet; can't stop. *steels self*

Yeah, that's why I got the opposite feeling, like the author identified with KYLE and thinks Annihilator is sexy and badass.

And the whole thing is like awful tropey fanfic turned into a comic complete with cheesy unrealistic dialogue, villain monologues, and closeted hero because THINK OF THE CHILDREN (because 17 year olds totally think like this ???) oh yeah and rape = love, we can't forget about that

Meanwhile the author claims the characters are "people who just happen to be gay" which is why the entire plot is about gayness.

LOL I love when he does that! I think it's hysterical. Now I insist upon calling fucking 'smush-smush' because I can and it makes me giggle.

Honestly, I think he does it cuz of all the people who are like 'PUT IT IN HIS BUUTTTTTTTT! DO IIIIIIIT! WE WANNA SEE THE SEEEEEXXXXX!!!111!!'

I understand that it's an adult webcomic about a gay superhero but it always came across as a superhero comic first, IMO. And I think the author feels similarly. He writes the sex cuz he likes it and it's popular with the fans but it's his little superhero fantasy world.

No denying it's creepy. But when I look at the comments and how people are like 'GET BACK TO THE SEEEEXXXX!! WHY ARE THEY WEARING CLOTHES?? I WANNA SEE PEEEEEEN!' whenever he draws anything to move the actual PLOT along, I understand why he does it.


Honestly, I've been dying for it to finally get back to the plot and away from the cheesy 'romance' story line. I'm glad Anni turned out to be playing Kyle. It's SO much better than that awful 'you're special and I wanna make this special for you' BS.

Have you read Artifice (the other comic of that guy's that's up)? It's pretty much the same thing where the romance IS the storyline (and saves the day!!), so I'm not really expecting much

I did read 'Artifice.' I wasn't aware that it was supposed to be much more than a romance thing though. Basically three characters, two of them in a relationship of sorts. I have somewhat higher hopes for TYP because we've met so many other characters and there seems to be something else going on outside of Anni and Kyle's whatever they have.

Of course, I'm not naive enough to think that this will be anything other than another 'love saves the day!' thing. That would just be silly of me lol.

I had to stop reading during the part where the superheroes found out there were porn of them and the comic implied that one of them of kids was homophobic because he was uncomfortable and creeped out with god damn pictures of him fucking his friends. Because god damn it.

Thaaaaat was awkward as hell. I skipped past that whole section. It was this weird meta intersectionality between fangirls, how fangirls want the celebs they fangirl over to act towards fanworks, and how fangirls react when celebs say that porny fanart creeps them out.

OKAY I've caught up (sort up, the archive doesn't seem to be working so I had to go back page by page and that was tedious and yeah), and holy shit. You weren't kidding. That dialogue was straight out of a cheesy romance novel, betrayal and all.

I'm glad the author didn't draw out that romance much longer though. I thought it was obvious that the villain was going to betray the kid from the beginning and it was terribly stupid of the kid to TRUST AND DATE A GOD. DAMN. VILLAIN. It's not even like they had past complicated history or whatever.

I don't find it creepy as much as cheesy. I mean I get what the author is trying to do and I approve! Superheroes who just happen to be not straight in a story, that'd be nice to see.

Except the entire plot is about GAYYYYYYY

This isn't a comic where anyone is incidentally gay. GAY IS AN ISSUE, it's hammered in from the start. The main character's biggest problem? GAY. Nothing to do with superheroing at all. Everything about superheroes just feels like it's incidentally there- hell, if the author could switch around the emphasis on gay and the emphasis on superhero it might actually be almost good.

As it stands now? It just reads like the author is going NO NO GAY IS NOT THE POINT and the characters are going YES YES IT TOTALLY IS.

Yeah, I gave up.

I kind of liked the other characters on his team, though. Especially Spooky. I'd like to see that character in a more not-romance-driven-comic.

Honestly, I thought the previous comic was kind of iffy, but still sweet enough, with a nice ending. This is waaaay too May/December, to the point that I swear, it reads like something out of one of those 50's PSAs about the eeeeeevvvill homosexual grown man who will lure young boys to their very gay doom.

Eyeah, the fact that he's monologuing to the underage naked kid he's holding prisoner after manipulating him with sex is way way waaaay creepy. Though I am pleased that the cringe-worthy romantic bullshit was just that, bullshit, and Annihilator was probably vomiting in his own mouth as I much as I was while it was going down. I couldn't finish the last comic by this author, I'm gonna see how far I make it through this one.
