I totally understand this, but there comes a point where you can't keep compromising and giving in to your students. Especially since they didn't even do the worksheet. He just read the story to him and told him he could do it tomorrow. The same thing he told John yesterday. So John got away with doing no work and was rewarded by being allowed to watch a movie.

Yes, this. The kid's learning alright - just not the things you want him to be learning. Way to reward bad behavior.

oh, i thought you meant they went through the work together. that's different then, my apologies. idk, there might be a personal reason john is unwilling to do work, but there's only so much you can do
