I only listened to the song because I kept seeing all those stupid Tumblr posts about it. I enjoyed it and now have it on my Spotify. So thank Tumblr for introducing me to a new song.

Haha same. Total fall for the haters.

For those few people left that haven't watched it

WARNING: BOOBS

Fun fact: the reason there's so many boobs in this are because of Robin's wife and the female director of the video.

congratz
do you want a medal for being an asshole about it?

[personal profile] kaijinscendre 2013-09-28 07:55 pm (UTC)(link)
Why you always giving me medals? I am running out of room on my "Internet Medals Wall".

Nope

(Anonymous) 2013-09-27 11:31 pm (UTC)(link)
It would not have faded away. It still would have been a really, really popular pop song. Because it's a really good pop song, it was one of the songs of the summer. It might have not been as present in fandom internet spaces, but it wasn't massive because of the controversy (although that may have helped in a PR sense), it was massive because of the song and the groove.

But it would have faded away. I mean...Bad Romance was huge and how many times do you hear it on the radio today?

Re: Nope

(Anonymous) 2013-09-27 11:51 pm (UTC)(link)
well

I mean

Yeah, it would have faded away like all pop songs do, but my point is that it's not the argument about whether or not it's rapey that is determining its popularity

Bad Romance is four years old, it's ancient.

I actually hear it a lot more than I would expect. And I only listen to pop stations 25% of the time.

Eh, personally I think it's terrible. It sounds like What's New Pussycat- generic, bland, terrible pop music.
fingalsanteater: (Default)

[personal profile] fingalsanteater 2013-09-27 11:35 pm (UTC)(link)
Doubt it. It was super fucking popular and everyone loved it (like it was literally on every radio channel, even the indie/ alt rock channel) way before the whole "it's a rapey song" interpretation become popular." It's one of those pervasive pop songs that does have staying power.

Wrong

(Anonymous) 2013-09-27 11:39 pm (UTC)(link)
Nope. It's a popular song. It's used in promos and television, played constantly on the radio, it's dubbed "the song of the summer". It wouldn't have gone away, and equally it is not so popular solely based on the people pointing out the creepy rapey vibe in the song.

(Anonymous) 2013-09-28 12:33 am (UTC)(link)
lol the only reason why the sjws are offended is because it unapologetically shows nude women prancing around
world_eater: (Default)

[personal profile] world_eater 2013-09-28 06:44 am (UTC)(link)
nude women? in a music video?

(Anonymous) 2013-09-28 02:07 am (UTC)(link)
If we don't talk about offensive things, they'll just go away and there will be no more discrimination anymore! That makes perfect sense.
insanenoodlyguy: (Default)

This relies on objectivity.

[personal profile] insanenoodlyguy 2013-09-28 02:31 am (UTC)(link)
your offensive is somebody else's "this is funny/hot/great!"

Unless you have something really offensive you are just spreading it. This would have been popular anyway, but now it's extra popular. Cause of you. Thanks! No really, thanks. Your butthurt has cheered my soul.

(Anonymous) 2013-09-28 02:43 am (UTC)(link)
If that's the song I think it is, I've only seen the gender-flipped spoof.

[personal profile] insanenoodlyguy 2013-09-28 03:07 am (UTC)(link)
You may as well go watch it, see what all the fuss is about.

(Anonymous) 2013-09-28 03:10 am (UTC)(link)
I'm really getting tired of Tumblr bitching and moaning about this song. Can it be over yet?

(Anonymous) 2013-09-28 04:24 am (UTC)(link)
Am I the only one who's heard this song hardly at all? Granted, I mostly listen to classic rock, but I switch to the top 40 station often enough that I know who Phillip Phillips is and what Katy Perry is up to. Yet, I've heard Blurred Lines on the radio exactly 2.5 times ever, and the 0.5 was from the Robin Thicke interview on NPR, which was the very first time I even became aware of the existence of this song.

(Anonymous) 2013-09-28 08:58 pm (UTC)(link)
Man. It is really annoying when something that actually has an awful message and is legitimately creepy and uncomfortable is made out to not be that way because...you want to spite the people talking loudly about how awful it is?

I mean, I'm sick of how much people talk about 50 Shades of Gray but it still doesn't change how awful it actually is...
