By and large there's no point in bringing up Silm canon in LoTR or The Hobbit. As such, few people do.

The only part of most Silm canon that is relevant in Hobbit or LotR period is the names of the Valar, Elrond's parentage and how that links him to Aragorn, and Thranduil possibly having a grudge against Dwarves because of the Silmarils, since he grew up in Doriath.

But honestly? Most of those are fanfic issues, not discussion thread issues, so they don't come up.
