(Anonymous) 2013-09-28 09:53 pm (UTC)(link)I think the weirdness for me came when that disconnect between Jesse Eisenberg as an actor and Jesse Eisenberg as a person got inextricably tangled. It's the difference between his social role as an actor (and therefore someone in a professional capacity, and allowing some distance from myself as a person) and his social role as someone's kid, who is easy to approach and relate to (all social roles that I recognize and inhabit myself).
It really doesn't help that his dad is a super nice guy who's fairly paternal with his students, as most of them are the age of his kids, anyway.
But anyway, especially with a job as an actor, it feels kind of voyeuristic, cause I know shit about him that I wouldn't otherwise if his dad weren't my professor. And by merit of his job, he's going to be showing more of himself, physically and emotionally, than other jobs do or would.
Like, I don't get to witness the children of people I know
crying/banging/freaking out/whatever in my normal life, because that's kind of awkward and intimate, and not in my field as an acquaintance of their parent, even if I am that kid's peer. (And while I realize that acting =/= real life, it's still a side of that person that I have witnessed.)
So yeah... idk, I think a lot of this is just my personal issues. :/
