I just wish more people who give it a try, it's an interesting book. Non-judgmental Silmarillion fan here :D

I liked the Silmarillion more than I liked LOTR. I thought LOTR was a bit of a chore to get through.

Me too. I love LotR now, but it took years of starting and giving up before I managed to get past the first 100 pages. The Silmarillion I just devoured though.

Ditto that - the Silm felt a lot like reading the Bible, which actually suited my mindset since I grew up with the Bible stories as a reliable fallback when I wanted a good dramatic story (read some of the tales in Genesis about Jacob's family - it's soap opera-worthy!).

Because of that, I got through the Silm far easier than LotR, where I didn't read Helm's Deep and Minas Tirith until after the movies.

I suppose we can thank Christopher Tolkien and Guy Gavriel Kay for making it easier reading.

Me too :) I see a lot of head-canon discussions on Tumblr, but save one, they seem civilized and interesting. I haven't seen any-one talk about the Hobbit and then get into an argument with Silm-readers. Yes, there are canon purists about, but I think mostly, people who get into the Silmarillion just love to discuss it, not necessarily 'nit-pick'.

I hang out with the canon heretics :) I see no point in arguing with the purists, so I just walk along the other side of the street as it were.
