One aspect of your second example is really intriguing to me, the part about how the original practitioners react to the alien converting. The doctrines part not as much for me because I don't really care about religious doctrine of any kind.

I'm not sure what you mean in your first example though. "Along the way, a group of religious students (or leaders) found themselves face to face with several con members in a non-opting-out situation (they both can't back down or turn away from one another)." I'm not sure what you mean by this. What are con members? And how does this tie in to the coup and the subsequent rebellion?

"What will the national/international news say about the amalgamation if their attention turns on them?" Whose attention turns on who? I'm sorry, I'm just really lost.

And I'm not really sure what you were asking in the first place. Sorry if this isn't the kind of response you were seeking.
