I don't understand you people..

Is this just a Western thing or...? Because it sounds like you don't understand what love even is? Love is (insert the whole world here)<(insert the person you love) so yes, it is selfish. So selfish that if push came to pull, you'd sacrifice the whole world and yourself for your love.

That's... certainly one definition of love. My personal opinion is that there are other forms of love which are more mature and healthier. Most epic =/= best, much less only.

DA

Yes, I would think also that this definition of love is rather immature. I don't mind if it's coming from a young person because that's a normal stage of development, but coming from a grown-up, that would surprise me.
Or rather, there would be the tendancy to want a love that > the whole world, but there should be rational reasoning that the real world has demands too.

If somebody'd damn the whole world for the sake of one person, I'd say that person doesn't know what love is.

Seriously.

OP, are you thirteen or are you dumb? Pick one.

Sounds like you have your own definition of love. Either that, or you're trolling.

There are a lot of intense emotions that get mistaken for "love." There's lust, infatuation, obsession, and so on. I'm not saying relationships/romances are any less valid when one or more of these emotions take center stage, but I also don't think it's fair to put them above something that's a bit more mature than that.

If the person who claimed to love me ended up sacrificing the entire world just so that we could be together, truthfully, I'd never forgive him. You know why? Because that says to me he's the type of person who doesn't care about anything or anyone else, who has no regard for life itself, or even my happiness.

The love of your life vs the entire world... it's not supposed to be an easy choice. But I would hope one would have a better reason for their choice besides the old "but I love them/they're the love of my life."
