fic request: failed Yuletide nominations

[personal profile] dreemyweird 2013-09-29 08:32 pm (UTC)(link)
That whiny Yuletide!anon from yesterday? That's me. Yeah. Thank y'all, folks, you helped.

I figured I'd ask if anyone's willing to write anything for my fandoms. There isn't much hope, but it's worth trying. Here:

Murder Rooms
Catch-22
Closing Time
Polar Express
The Flying Inn

specification possible if necessary.

I would, but I'm not the best writer in the world so...Sorry. But I hope you find someone!

I have never paid attention to Yuletide so I'm not really certain of the parameters (word count, anon or no, etc), but I've wanted to write Murder Rooms for the longest time and this just might provide the inspiration I need to do it. Does it have to be a Christmas setting or anything in particular? And is there a particular prompt or anything you want for it?

I can't guarantee anything and my fic usually runs between 1,500 and 3,000 words, but I'd love to give it a try!

that would probably make me the happiest person in the whole goddamn town I currently reside in

As far as I am aware, there aren't any particular requirements, it's just an obscure fandom fic exchange. The word count, the setting etc. are up to the writer/the author of the prompt.

As to my own wishes... Well, I do have a weak spot for awesome Bell&Doyle friendship (possibly Bell&Doyle&Innes, too); and I like all the seriously fucked-up aspects of this relationship (the fate of Doyle's father combined with the fact that Bell's son was killed at the battlefront, Bell's trust issues, their disagreement over the cases, Elspeth). I myself was planning to write a work where Cream would be finally killed off, but this idea is based on the books rather than the series itself. Feel free to write whatever suits your fancy; I'll be euphoric anyway.

I probably can't write anything, but I would be interested in hearing more about your fic ideas for The Flying Inn just out of curiosity.

...I've always wanted a steampunk AU of The Flying Inn where the inn actually flies. For a while I thought I could write it myself, but I keep getting distracted by other projects.

It is a headcanon of mine induced by an inaccurate retelling of the original story. Back when I was only planning to read it, somebody told me it was a book about an inn that flies but failed to specify that the flying part wasn't literal; when it came to reading the book, I was a bit disappointed.

Can you tell me your ideas for Catch-22 and Polar Express? I can't promise anything - I'm not the best writer to begin with, and college is swamping me a bit - but I might try.

Catch-22 needs a grimdark ending (because I thought that was totally how it was going to end), although I kind of wrote that already (but it's still a valid idea, mostly because my work was about Doc Daneeka&Yossarian and not very sad). Also, a canon divergence story of how Yossarian agreed to fly with Orr <3

As to Polar Express, there's a fanon (accepted by me and this other fan) in which the Conductor and the Hobo meet and establish a kind of grumbly and awkward friendship. They learn each other's backstory and hang out together. It would be cool to have something more action-y, but unfortunately I don't have any action-adventure prompts for this in mind.

Sorry to bother you, but do you know where the successful Yuletide nominations are at?

It's fine!
They said they'd make the tag set open today, but apparently it isn't available yet:

I imagine they'll make a post in yuletide_admin once the nominations are revealed.

I think I can write a "Polar Express" story. I saw your prompt in a different reply and I'll see if I can make the story "action adventury." (I'll have to rewatch Polar Express but that won't be a hardship!)
