I haven't see Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.. Impressions, anyone?

Generic, which is odd considering that it is a show about a secret government agency but that's the best word that I can think of. Nothing to write home about.

The pilot was shit but the second episode was much better. Which isn't hard, since the pilot was really really shit.

Melinda May is awesome, Coulson's kind of weak (at least IMO), the rest of the cast is somewhere between bland and annoying but got a lot better in the second episode. (Which again, not hard! The pilot sucked.) Given the improvement from the pilot to the second episode I have high hopes that the show will find itself and be as awesome as everyone hoped it would be so I'll keep watching, but I can understand the people who went "screw it" after the pilot. But then, those people also missed the last minute or two of episode 2, which was the single most perfect thing to ever grace the television screen, so JOKES ON THEM!

SPOILERSSSSSSSSS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Seriously.

Fury's two minute scene was the best thing out of the two episodes so far. It also shows that old saying that an actor is only as good as the actor he is playing against is true. Gregg seemed stiff when he played against the rest of the cast. Coulson was dull and lifeless. Then Jackson shows up and Coulson, the Coulson I love from the movies, was back. Jackson was an electric jolt that brought this dead show back to life. He needs to pop in from time to time to remind us how Gregg is a good actor.

Exactly! Coulson worked great in the movies because everyone he interacted with had presence and there Coulson's dry blandness worked. But on AoS only Melinda has any kind of presence or spark (their scene in the cockpit when Coulson apologizes was the only other scene where he worked for me), or whatever you want to call it, which makes Coulson seem lifeless by association when he's interacting with the rest of the team.

I swear I had the biggest grin on my face when Fury came on-screen because THAT was the Coulson I loved in the movies and shorts.

Personally, I was very underwhelmed. The characters are so incredibly generic: the stoic badass, the one who "doesn't play well with others," the pretty yet quirky female genius, and the technobabbling comic relief sidekicks. The plotlines so far are not interesting or engaging, imo. That being said, I preferred the second episode to the first, so I'll stick with it for at least a couple more weeks.

i'm with HWC. The first episode was a bit too much camp and not enough engagement. The second one got it more balanced. it's still campy as shit. but it's being written like it's comic book dialogue... and I'm so fucking okay with that.

If you've watched the old Thunderbirds puppet show then you've seen it already only with slightly less wooden actors.

More seriously. The trouble is it is bland and generic through and through. The characters could all swap dialogue and no one would notice. They don't have individual enough character designs in terms of both looks and 'voice'. They are just damn bland and interchangeable.

The "adventures" are pretty generic too so far. Standard run around stuff that with a few tweaks could be fit to any "hi-tech" cop show like CSI, NCIS, Bones, etc. The previews for the upcoming episodes do not bode well either.

I want to like it. I thought the first episode had potential but Coulson was the only non-generic-seeming character. I've got the second downloaded but my expectations aren't high.

I'm spoiled on so much good television, too.

The second episode is WAY better than the pilot. Not that hard given how bad the pilot was, but still. It's given me hope that the show will pick up in the next few episodes.

I feel sort of...neutral? I don't know. I've only seen the pilot. It wasn't terrible but it didn't really grab me either. I felt a bit at times like it may as well have been subtitled "how many Avengers references can we fit in this thing?" and although as a MCU fan it's kind of fun I just wonder if you can sustain a show by relying on the audience to play spot the in-joke. I know it's the same universe but the show still needs to have its own identity so maybe that calms down after the pilot?

Also I know this is fandom sacrilege but I've never been all that bothered about Coulson. That hasn't changed based on the pilot.

IT WAS FABULOUS

I absolutely adored both episodes. So that might put me in a minority among let's-talk-about-it-here! multifannish spaces, but it is nevertheless true.

(My parents liked them too, in fact my dad randomly decided to rewatch episode 2 this afternoon after watching it for the first time this morning.)

The only thing I have to say is that the two guys (Mr. Stoic Manly Man Agent Guy and Technobabble Guy With the Drones, idk their names) are incredibly touchy. As in, they keep touching each other. I wouldn't think much of it except for that they're the only two that really do it, and so it sticks out.

I thought it was cute and enjoyable, but I always assume tv shows relating to movies are going to be a little cheesey. The two geeks are fun, I can't wait to see how they expand Melinda May's history, and I like that Coulson remainsa voice of reason/suit that manage to think in unusual angles. Plus, Fury is going to show up from time to time!
