Name you're too chicken to use?

(Anonymous) 2013-10-02 11:51 pm (UTC)(link)
Inspired by Secret #5: what's a name that you've always thought would be cool, but you don't actually think you'll be able to name your kids?

For me: Tallasie (from the What the Deaf Man Heard movie/book), which I thought was unusual and beautiful

also I once knew a girl who was named Hatherleigh and went by Hattie, which charmed me.

You could probably get away with Titus because it's an old Roman name and it's also a name in the Bible of one of Paul's companions. So like, if you're worried about people saying you named your kid after the video game character or that it's not a "proper Christian name"* you can be like, "Haha, no, suck it."

*I have no idea if you live in an area where this is a problem you might face from others.

Aurora. Sleeping Beauty was my favorite Disney movie as a kid just because I thought her name was so pretty.

Depending on where you live you could so get away with that name. I knew a lot of Crystals growing up. Aurora isn't a far stretch from that.

Isn't Aurora a pretty normalish English name? I always assumed that, but then again I am not from an English speaking part of the world? Actually thinking of it, it might be a more normal Norwegian name, as in it isn't something a lot of people are named, but it would not raise any eyebrows...

I wanted SO MUCH to name my daughter Christopher Robin, but my mother-in-law said she would never be able to look at me the same way again, so I didn't. :(

My daughter would have ROCKED the name.

When I was twelve, I wanted to have two daughters and name them Raven and Sakura =/ This was when I hadn't heard the word "sakura" outside of the Cardcaptor Sakura English dub, which did not pronounce it right. And we're not even going to discuss the name Raven.

I'd really like to name a hypothetical son Raphael, but it's such a serious name.

The only reason I won't use a few names I love is cultural appropriation. So alas, no Asayo or Sora.

Any "too weird" or "lol you got that from that one movie/TV show/videogame" names I like will be middle names.

Panteleimon isn't an unusual name in the part of Greece where my Dad's extended family is from, and I've always thought it was cool. But I couldn't handle people who thought I ganked my kid's name from His Dark Materials.

I have a lot of names I love, especially from the Welsh and Gaelic language, but considering very few people would be able to pronounce them correctly where I live, I wouldn't do that to a child.
