I'd maybe try one more time to explain that it's incorrect and why, and if they still insisted on doing it wrong I'd decline to edit for them anymore. I'd also ask that they not "credit" me because I wouldn't want people thinking that I thought it was okay, you know?

I'd be really annoyed by that too. It would be one thing if the author disagreed with you on something subjective, like the writing style, but this is a basic grammatical rule.

TBH, I haven't been credited at all so far (which I'm okay with; like I said, they're short chapters), but if they did add me, I would be uncomfortable, so I'll keep that in mind.

But, yeah, I might have to step back if they keep refusing to change it. :/
