If I had to guess (which I do, because I don't speak French) I'd say it's down to the context. Based on my interpretation of the song (the more recent version of the song is the only one I can really talk about) it's about a whore. The relationship between whore and john is not what I would call a close, intimate, and friendly relationship. It can be, of course, but it is fundamentally a professional relationship. Hence the use of Vous over Tu, to underline this.
