AUs - Tell me about yours

[personal profile] lynx 2013-10-03 11:41 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh wow I'm arriving f'ing early O_O

ANYWAY. My RP parter and I have produced botloads of AUs. So many, we actually RP very little :'D We love planning new worlds and see how our characters fit there.

What are your favorite kind of AUs, F!S? Have you made any?

Some people are addicted to cocaine or alcohol. I'm addicted to writing canon divergence AUs.

A/B/O verse, yeah. I said it. Other than that, royalty AUs, de-aging fics (OR character as a kid raised by other characters), zombie AUs as long as my favorite characters don't die.

I have not made any because I cannot write.

I love royalty AUs! It's embarrassing how much I love them. That and 'character as a kid raised by other characters'. I could read them all day long.

Do crossovers count? I like crossovers that at least somewhat make sense.

Oh god I love AUs. I love for-the-want-of-a-nail AUs, I love Darker And Edgier interpretations (Pokemon fandom does Darker And Edgier REALLY well!), and, I'll admit it, I have a shameful love for modern AUs.

...Including high school / university AUs (my main fandom does involve high school-aged characters, at least!) and coffee shop AUs. Cough.

Most recent AUs are a university AU (Zelda fandom, here), and, significantly shorter, an AU meme here (also Zelda fandom - it's one of those 'pick ten characters, fill in prompts according to numberes' things). ...My AU tag is extensive and active, heh.

Mass Effect AU

After Shepard's memorial the squad went out drinking. Garrus got smashed so Wrex and Ashley had to carry him back to his apartment. He woke on his sofa with a hangover the next morning and went into his bedroom to find Wrex and Ashley occupying his bed.

When Shepard ran into Ashley on Horizon she was in a long distance relationship with Wrex and had moved on but Shepard didn't find out because Ashley didnt say anything about it.

During the events of ME3 even if Shepard romanced Ashley in ME1 she is not interested in leaving Wrex.

If Shepard is female she ends up with Garrus or Bakara, if Shepard is male he realises he's gay for Garrus.

I haven't, but in some fandoms I like "modern day rewrites".

The kind where everyone is recognizably in character despite the different setting. I wish I saw these more often.

I like canon-flavor AUs, where the plot takes a different twist somewhere. I have a short set of Bat-clan AU fics where the comics meet the DCAU about half-way.

Right now, I am scribbling on a Marvel-MovieVerse AU. I don't know that I'll ever publish it, though, but it's a Coulson-centric sedoretu thing. Which is weird, because I have never written a ship-centric anything before, and the first one I start in on is a weird four-way kinda deal? I have a strange brain.

Anyway, so there you are.

"Canon-flavor AUs" is exactly the term I was looking for to describe the kind of AUs I like. I'm not really interested in AUs that completely transplant the characters to somewhere else.

Every so often a totally outrageous AU will grab me, but generally I agree with you. I don't want to know what Spock would be like as a barista or how Loki would act if he were a college professor with no powers. I am curious how SG-1 be different if Shau're hadn't died.

Man, this makes me miss my former rp partner. : /

We had tons [like...somewhere around 20] and another one planned that never came to be. Oh, and we did rp them all.

So uh...let's see. [I'm leaving out pretty much all the plot as a heads up]

1. Rev war [...makes sense with the characters, promise.]
2. Roman Empire
3. Sci-fi one
4. A destopian/sci-fi-ish one, with a revolution brewing
5. One where people had this app that could tell them when they'd met their ~true love~ - but only if both people had that app, and it was on. [There were a few more complications, but that's the general gist.]
6. One where one of them was a former pornstar
7. One where one was a fairy
8. Where they were both nagas
9. A punk band and they had...serious issues with the whole 'relationship' thing
10. One was an angel
11. One where they were stuck in this rebirth cycle, where they'd meet, fall in love, and one would always kill the other.
12.Police officers
13. Pirates
14. Vampires
15. childhood friends [following them as they grew up]
16. "dark" versions of themselves

There are a few more, but that's what I remember off the top of my head.

my friend and I have a story that was an original setting AU. It actually followed the canon up til the finale and diverged from there. It had the characters in a new place, facing new challenges. I made it canon central and devised a goal and arc for every member of the group. I decided I wanted this story to confront things about the characters that the last season missed.

When I posted it I was fretting that people would hate it for sure, but I was surprised when people seemed to like it. I even showed it to one of the people who ran the ____-Sues communtities in my fandom (because they seemed to be a good fair giver of critique ) and well they seemed to like it from what I showed them.

To date it's one of the stories I've enjoyed doing the most, really. Even on days where I don't feel inspired I pull myself through writing a bit for it.

I love AUs. All of my fanfic is AUs, mostly of the *insert character here* survives what killed them in canon/comes back from the dead AUs. Way too many characters I love get killed in canon.

I love What If AUs, Fantasy AUs, Modern Day AUs, Modern Fantasy AUs, Sci Fi AUs, pretty much any AU.

The only kinds I can think I don't like are the Dark, or Slytherin Harry fics in Harry Potter, and things like that. I've never come across one that hasn't horribly warped some, if not all the people who loved Harry in canon.

I'm in the process of outlining a Twilight AU where Bella comes to Forks because she was turned into a vampire and it's very difficult to be a Twilight-style vampire in Phoenix.

Almost any post-apocalypse. I love them! I've written several. I also like AUs that slightly skew the world of canon. For instance - i wrote a Supernatural fic before there with angels with...angels, heh.

I do love the occasional silly, fluffy bakery or coffee shop or vet or whatever AU.
