my friend and I have a story that was an original setting AU. It actually followed the canon up til the finale and diverged from there. It had the characters in a new place, facing new challenges. I made it canon central and devised a goal and arc for every member of the group. I decided I wanted this story to confront things about the characters that the last season missed.

When I posted it I was fretting that people would hate it for sure, but I was surprised when people seemed to like it. I even showed it to one of the people who ran the ____-Sues communtities in my fandom (because they seemed to be a good fair giver of critique ) and well they seemed to like it from what I showed them.

To date it's one of the stories I've enjoyed doing the most, really. Even on days where I don't feel inspired I pull myself through writing a bit for it.
