It may not change anything, and it may change a lot of things.
They might be happy with it, or adjust without any consequence, or be outraged like anon above, or start behaving like cooing fangirls due to the "oooh guy in fandom" doubled with "ooooh, gay guy in fandom".

It really all depends of these people, so nobody can give you a real clue, I'm afraid.

IMO, if you feel more comfortable that way and it's just fandom interactions that you're looking for, I don't see a problem with it.

Personally I like that aspect of fandom, that it brings together people about what they have in common, regardless of their differences.
