Re: how do I get the BF to stop playing gta

The fact that he actually did as you asked and only plays when you're not around says a lot about him.

The fact that's not enough and you want to control what he plays outright says a lot about you.

I hope he breaks up with you.

I think that's a little extreme. If someone you loved was watching something that was really racist/homophobic/misogynistic for instance, it's not unreasonable to ask them not to consume that media. Those things really do influence how people see the world. Jokes about rape have been shown to make people take rape less seriously. Hollywood's representation of the population has been shown to skew how people view the real population (as in, if a group is 50/50 male/female, people will perceive this as women dominating). I'm kind of sick of this knee-jerk reaction to defending any and all video games because some people said violent games were purely responsible for school shootings. That's a dumb thing to say, but it's also stupid to say they're completely free of judgement.

I'm not sure what GTA is really like but I don't think anyone who has played it has ever disputed that it's got lots of misogynistic content.

Saying something has been shown is not the same a showing it. I'm afraid I need you to back this statement up.
