Personally I think AO3 is okay for all fandoms but for smaller fandoms people might not find the site at all and when you limit the pool of new fic coming in on purpose I just--I can't understand it beyond big fandom mentality where you want the "better" fic easier to find by making the location almost a secret/exclusive sort of thing.
That said you have about a billion percent higher chance in my fandom to get feedback on FFN. Something about FFN just feels more, IDK, like a community in my fandom.
YMMV. Just my imput. I prefer FFN's layout and everything though I will admit you have a lot more control over how the format of your fic looks on AO3 vs. FFN. (I never do fancy shit so I don't care.)
I think AO3 is cluttered looking and I never go there to look for fic. Reading a fic is okay but there's too much...idk open space? It's weird. I just think AO3 needs a shitton of work before it's something I'll want to even use. XD;;
