Depends how you define badfic. I'd agree that SPaG tends to be better on AO3. However, as far as I'm concerned, AUs where characters don't have the slightest resemblance to their canon selves aren't any more readable or enjoyable than some sugar high Mary Sue fic. I'm a slash fan, but most of the stuff I come across on AO3 seems to feature generic copy-and-paste any-two-guys characterisation.

+1. AO3 had/has better average SPAG but the fic has always been just as bad.
