When I first started using message boards (around age 11, maybe a bit younger) I posted under a fake name and gave myself a whole backstory that included living in a city I'd never been to. I made some friends online and rather than telling them the truth, I just created a new screen name and started posting as a newbie under my own name. Looking back on it I feel really bad, but also kind of amazed that no one ever called me out on it.
