(Anonymous) 2013-10-06 06:17 am (UTC)(link)the word "phobic" and the suffix "-phobic" are similar, but not identical. for example, a hydrophobic molecule is not afraid of water, it has an aversion to water. to be ___-phobic you have to have "a fear of or aversion to" whatever the subject is. I really really wish we would get beyond the silly "but they're not afraid of gays!!" reasoning because that's not what it means at all.
