(Anonymous) 2013-10-06 06:17 am (UTC)(link)the word "phobic" and the suffix "-phobic" are similar, but not identical. for example, a hydrophobic molecule is not afraid of water, it has an aversion to water. to be ___-phobic you have to have "a fear of or aversion to" whatever the subject is. I really really wish we would get beyond the silly "but they're not afraid of gays!!" reasoning because that's not what it means at all.

i didn't realize people could disagree with me existing. and don't give me the "i disagree with your lifestyle." my lifestyle is the average american's lifestyle. who i happen to fall in love with doesn't change that.
"disagreeing with homosexuality" is homophobic.

(Anonymous) 2013-10-06 11:34 am (UTC)(link)You don't get to disagree with my existing just because it makes you uncomfortable, because that means you probably see me as less than human on some level, whether you're conscious of it or not. Certainly you think I'm "unnatural" despite natural meaning "of nature" and plenty of animals partake in homosexuality.

(Anonymous) 2013-10-07 04:11 am (UTC)(link)...actually, that's catchy. Although I would argue, even going by the 'afraid of' root, that 'homophobic' is still accurate because, at the deepest levels, the majority of these stupid prejudices - no matter how aggressively they're expressed - are based in weakness and fear. (Fear of what will happen to our 'wholesome' society, fear of an icky gay guy hitting on them in a bar...)
