I don't know, maybe it's just my personality, but when fandom starts saying "hey guys, we NEED to have a talk about this," I immediately think "yeah, we don't NEED to have a talk about anything." I'm not saying that people shouldn't talk about it, I just have my fandom priorities and this is so not one of them, and it pisses me off when it becomes so central to everything about it that I'm expected to talk about it. And of course people draw all kinds of conclusions if you don't talk about it.

And in the end it focuses on one aspect of a show that isn't even supposed to be a thing. The show is about so much.

This 110%.

No, I get you. I feel like sometimes the people who want to talk about it feel like the dismissive attitude means no one cares or is paying attention to something they feel deeply about. But now, because there's been such a strong reaction to the fact that not everyone wants to talk about it, it has become a defining aspect of the fandom. However, it's become so polarized that no real discussion is happening anyway. So it's lose-lose, for those who wanted to discuss race and those who didn't.
