Hate it when this happens...

(Anonymous) 2013-10-06 09:47 pm (UTC)(link)
My favorites list on FFN has ticked down from 200 to 199, and I can't figure out which fic got deleted. It's easy to say "well, if I can't remember, then it must not have mattered", but every so often I suddenly remember a fic I liked and have the urge to look back at it. This has happened with almost every story on that list so far.

Sigh.

Of course, nothing is as bad as when one of my favorites, the ones I never forget, gets removed.

this. I hate it. And I'm going through my YT playlist and after a while go "hey it's been a long time since I've listened to that song..."

If you have time, you could download them - using Flag should be the most convenient way. You can save them in a variety of formats.

I hate it when fic disappears. I had a whole bunch of great slashfic vanish because the author found her faith in Jesus and decided them gays were evil and she was evil for writing it.

Or when you find an author who had a large amount of great fics just ups and deletes everything with no warning or perceivable reason.

They can. It's their stuff. It just sucks when it happens.

This is why I copy and save each and every fic I've liked. It won't matter if the author deletes them and I can find them much faster.

That's what I do. I've got stacks of great fics saved in my documents.

When really great WIP fics with that honestly seemed to be going somewhere with the story stop being updated and enough time passes that it's pretty clear they probably won't ever be finished. I get that people lose interest in what they're writing or get too frustrated by a problem with the story to continue. I also get that authors can die or RL can intervene, but it's still unfortunate to see a great story stall out or leave you on a cliff-hanger. I don't want to be one of those people badgering for updates and if I don't know the author, I don't feel it's appropriate to ask about RL problems, especially not when my primary motive is more fic.

I kicked a lot of WIPs from my e-reader because they hadn't been updated in over a year. Now I have 12 left, and they also don't get updates. So sad.

I followed a fic years ago for about two years while the author updated, then nothing. I kept it on my list because I loved the story so much and would read it about 3 years. Well 10 years after not updating, the author came back and finished the story!! It was actually even a fairly well done ending too and not something that seemed rushed.
