You can't be angry at them for knowing what their audience wants and then giving it to them. They're doing their jobs well, if anything.

Sure you can, especially if they start weaving all over the place trying to do whatever the audience wants at the moment. On the other hand, deliberately designing a show to be what the audience wants... no, actually, some people will still blame them for that.

It's a little silly to blame them, though.

I disagree. I think that shows get weaker when they start pandering (even if it's to my demographic). It's always embarrassing to me.

I agree. Supernatural is the worst for this, imo. The show got considerably weaker when they started referencing fandom and trying to pander to the fandom.

One of the problems with "giving the fans what they want" is that not all of the fans want the same thing. So which fans should the be listening to? Just because someone does go along with the predominant fan favorite or ships/slashes the favorite fan couple does not make that person any less of a fan.

(sorry this is sort of a pet peeve of mine)
