Plus, I like that Mills doesn't have to work at cross purposes to her fellow police officers to hide what's really going on.

This. I don't think I'd consciously pinged on it, but I do love that element. I may still be in love with Agent Scully, but "rational" people sucking it up and accepting the evidence that Weird Stuff Is Going Down is one of my favorite things on supernatural shows. It's a big part of why I was so quick to fall in love with The River.
