Seizure anon

(Anonymous) 2013-10-08 12:22 am (UTC)(link)
I'm the seizure anon from yesterday and the other day. A bunch of you guys strongly insisted I go to the doctor and get myself checked out. (My roommates did, too, so I figured it was unanimous.)

So I took myself off to the health center, and the doctor that saw me was pretty well freaked out about the seizure thing, and scheduled me for an appointment with a neurologist within the next few days.

Just letting you guys know I'm being responsible and didn't chicken out and endanger myself or anyone else by sitting on the seizure.

Annnnnd I'm kind of terrified, because now I actually have to go in for tests and stuff, and yeah. My doctor and the nurses were all super nice, so here's hoping the specialist will be too. :(

*Sends hugs to you, Anon* Stay strong. You did the right thing, getting yourself checked out. I wish you success in your tests.

Go you for getting checked out. Tests can be scary, but you're doing the right thing for yourself. I hope the specialist is nice too.

Just remember, you are not the first scared person these folks have seen. It's okay to tell tham that you're freaked out, and they'll know ways to minimize that.

IME, specialists are better at being nice and friendly than GPs are, so if you got a good draw on your GP, you're likely to have a good one on the neurologist, too.

And good for you - and just remember, if you do have a seizure condition, it'll mess your life up a whole lot worse if you don't know about it than if you do. That said, I do hope you don't have anything actually wrong with you.

I'm glad to hear it, anon! Good luck with the tests, and I hope the neurologist will be both kind and good. :)

A tip for photosensitivity: if you encounter something blinky and you're worried it might set you off, but you still need to see, cover one eye with the palm of your hand. (If you don't need to see, by all means cover both eyes!) I find covering my eye more effective than just closing it or turning away, because it blocks the light more completely.
