Revenge of the Nostalgia

[personal profile] kaijinscendre 2013-10-09 11:26 pm (UTC)(link)
What are some old videos/shows/books that whenever you hear a certain phrase/sound in your head it automatically brings up some memory.

For me whenever I hear the word "interior" I automatically think "interior crocodile alligator, I drive a Chevrolet movie theater." http://youtu.be/kZwhNFOn4ik

Also, the word forever. I often in my head go, "FOR-EH-VER." http://youtu.be/r0H6R7xRytk

What are yours?

There's a stock sound effect in Shadow of the Colossus that immediately brought back memories of the first Unreal. I don't think I've ever heard it anywhere else, interestingly enough.

Ahaha. There are like these 3 notes in a certain song that ALWAYS remind me of an episode of Twilight Zone.

I always have to make the "hua!" sound. I feel like a fierce warrior for, like, five seconds. It's great.

Leverage. Despite my love of the show, and despite the fact that I'm pretty sure my love of the show predates my hearing the song for the first time, it always makes me sing a bit of BNL's "Elf's Lament" in my head.

We're used to repetition
So we drew up a petition:
"We the undersigned feel undermined
Let's redefine employment"
We know that we've got leverage
So we'll had the fat man a beverage
He'll sit back while we attack
The utter lack of our enjoyment
It may be tough to swallow
But out threats are far from hollow
He may thunder, but if he blunders
He may wonder where the toys went

SA

That is, the word "leverage" does that to me, not the show. That could have been clearer. I am also incapable of hearing the phrase "chain of command" without instantly mentally following it up with "It's the chain I get and beat you with until you figure out who's in ruttin' command!" And I don't even like Firefly.

A curse on all halflings! (Lotr, though that may be one specific german translation of the books)

Whenever somebody says 'cursed', which in german is rather easy as 'damned' here is 'verflucht!' which literally means cursed.

If I hear any part of the one ring poem thing I have to say the whole thing.

"First I was afraid. I was petrified."

Really, if you say anything close to a line in a song I'm going to continue the verse.

I'm the same way with the word forever. I end up mentally reciting all the way through the repetitions most of the time.

One of the managers at work is fond of closing out group discussions with, "Okay, let's rock." I always have to squash the urge to finish, "and ride."

Anyone singing "Be our guest." because it ends up turning into the Simpson's parody 'See my vest' version.

"Space" (as in Star Trek TOS.) But it has to be said somewhat like Shatner and/or be referring to outer space for me to really have the reaction.

whenever I hear the word "predicate" I think "mr morton is the subject of our sentence, and what the predicate says, he does!" it's from schoolhouse rock and that was always my favourite haha.

Every time The Secret Garden is mentioned I can smell fig newtons, laundry detergent, and that musty ozoney smell that accompanies rain in the middle of summer. The first time I read Secret Garden it was on a rainy summer day, eating fig newtons, while my mother folded laundry. Not sure why there's such a strong sense memory with this book though.

Anytime somebody says "ja, ja" in German - be it as an acknowledgement of something you said or a dismissive answer - almost everyone I know will shout "Ja Ja heißt: Leck mich am Arsch!".
