So, um... lysol + mucous membrane = call poison control, y/n?

I'm not certain how poisonous that can be, so somebody else can weigh in on that. However, if you are concerned, you can drink some water right now without having to wait on anybody. This will help dilute anything potentially harmful.

...it was my nose, actually. Is there any way to flush that without having to basically inhale the water?

I kinda figured. But any water intake will help in dilution. I wouldn't inhale it, if it were me.

Look, if you're really worried, you should call poison control whether someone on the internet tells you to or not.

Well... if you tilt your head forward you can squirt water up one nostril and it will come out the other.

However, you need to make sure the water is sterilized beforehand.

I'd phone them and ask their advice. Even if it turns out to be nothing and you feel like an idiot, at least you won't be worrying about what might happen.

I'd call poison control just to be safe.

Also; OMG I am shuddering at the thought of the pain that would cause, I hope you'll be ok OP.

Okay, so I'll probably get the worst person award for doing this, but I think you'll probably be okay.

As someone who has had iodine solution, chlorhexadine, and bleach water in the eyes or up the nose various times throughout my life with no treatment (aside for flushing myself with water), I think you will be okay.

So just flush your nose out with water whether you want to or not. And if you start losing functions and/or feeling off in any way, go to a doctor.

But unless you inhaled like a fuckload of it, I really think you will be okay.

I agree with this comment. Unless a bunch of it went down your throat or you're bleeding or it hurts really badly, I'd flush the hell out of it with water and not worry about it.

I don't know but it doesn't hurt you to call.

There's no harm in calling poison control. They will not mind, even if it turns out to be nothing. The people at poison control generally don't get enough to do.

OP

I went ahead and called, and they had me submerge my nose in water to gently flush it and then take a warm bath/shower and spend a while breathing the steam.

I'm still in a bit of discomfort (and more than a bit of embarrassment) but it's already significantly better now.

Did they say if you could flush your nasal cavity with nose spray? A lot of that stuff is just saline...

I'd expect you're probably going to be okay because, IIRC, lysol was originally marketed as a douche, and the vulva and vagina are lined with mucous membranes... And while I'm pretty sure that caused some serious fucking vaginal nastiness, especially with prolonged use, I'd expect we'd have heard more about it if was prone to actually causing death.
