She's a gorgeous super-hacker in her early 20s and nearly all of the men on the team have fallen for her, she has a mysterious background and, despite living in a van in an alley, has top of the line clothes and always looks absolutely stunning. Plus she's so ~smart~, ~witty~ and ~charming~!

And the scientists AREN'T Mary Sues for being good looking super geniuses?

And Melinda May isn't a Mary Sue for being a gorgeous woman who can kick ass and fly a plane?

Come the fuck on.

The term "Mary Sue" is meaningless bullshit and basically ends up translating to "female character I don't like".

The science bunnies and the agents have all had special training and education to be what they are Skye gets her gifts by creator fiat not through having the character work for them (even if the Science Bunnies and the Agents only have lip service paid towards them working for their achievements through the bad writing). That is what makes her a Mary Sue.

You keep talking but all I'm hearing is "Waaaaah! Female character I don't like! Waaaah! Mary Sue!"

The term 'Mary Sue' means poorly written female character. Being pretty and smart do make a character bad. Being unrealistically pretty and not really acting smart (I'm like super good at computers lol nerds should luv me im so smart) make a character even more eyeroll worthy.

Most martial artists work out and May has the time and money to take care of herself. It's not a surprise that she's hot, nor is it unrealistic.

Team Science Bunnies are more cute than drop dead gorgeous, but again they have the time and money to keep themselves put together.

You're right.

They should talk about how Skye went to computer hacking school, like all computer hackers do in real life.

JFC, you're just grasping at straws, reaching for excuses to hate Skye ("she's too pretty and well groomed for someone living in a van") in a universe were SUPER HEROES EXIST.

If you want realism, you've come to the wrong show.

Go back to watching National Geographic.

I don't hate her just because she's pretty and supposed to be smart. I also hate her because of her speech in episode two about how great it is that people are coming together to fight against their govt. it sounded like a sociology professor's wet dream and reminded mr of the bullshit that social justice warriors like to blather on tumblr.

I'm not up on my computer science credentials, but it seems like its a discipline that would take a lot of hard work and instruction. I really doubt that its something that just comes to a lot of people.

Yeah it does have superheroes. The one they showed us in the pilot behaved believably for a person in his situation and circumstances. If I had gotten laid off after an injury and someone offered me an opportunity to make me stronger and give me superpowers I might act in the same way. I really doubt that most homeless pseudo anarchists act like manic pixie dream girls. Superhero dude didn't break my suspension of disbelief because he was a better character.

I'll continue watching the show, thanks. It's cute in its own right and I'm enjoying it for what it is.
