I am tangentially part of the Les Mis fandom (one of my faves is in it but I'm not really such a fan of the book/play/movie) and whenever I see that I roll my eyes so hard. I mean I understand that E/R is the favored ship, and I ship it too, but come ON.

I remember when I was 14 or so I went on a tirade in a Gundam Wing yahoo! club about how Quatre and Dorothy COULD NOT be in a relationship because of a ton of reasons (which often veered into being ridiculous, like the fact that they had the same hair color... idk) that sounded a lot like these fans and their tumblr crusade against Enjonine, so I'm just going to assume that they're also 14.

Oh, god, I follow one person who got involved in that trainwreck once, and it was ridiculous on both sides. All 'queer erasure nooo' on one side and 'here's a list of anti-Enjonine people so you can send them lots of anon hate' on the other, with the usual guest appearances from 'how dare any of you portray Enjolras as anything but asexual, the One True Reading'. Les Mis was my very first online fandom (eep, 15+ years ago) and it always has a place in my heart, but nothing has made me so happy that I just peek in at the edges of it these days.

I love that tag. It's so true. On tumblr, everyone seems to lose all sense of rational thought and mature behavior when that wank is mentioned. It's all screeching and accusations and bullying from both sides.

It's why I love places like DW. People seem to be a lot more chill about this stuff over here.

Les Miserables fandom is just really dnw to me. I don't mind AUs for example, but for some reason all the ones I see with the 'Barricade Boys' make me cringe hardcore.

uuuuuuhm because 99% of all Les Mis fic is about the Barricade Boys being in college and doing "college things" that no one in college actually does because these are wish fulfillment for high schoolers?

Except that there's a lot more to the fandom than just bad college AUs? Granted, there are A LOT of bad college AUs out there, but pretending that's all that there is--or that it's only the Amis who get subjected to it--is just silly. There are plenty of interesting AUs or canonical stories that have nothing to do with colleges--or that have an actual plot if they do involve college. There's actually quite a few really interesting fantasy and dystopian stories with the Amis, if you're ever interested.

I'm just recounting a lot of what I personally see. Anyway, I'm not really interested in reading fic for Les Mis. I love it a lot, but it's not something I'd ever really consider a fandom.

As a trangender, asexual, biromantic white male I like to stay very very far away from tumbler. The transness and ace-ness and bi-ness makes everyone want to accuse me of internalised whatchamacallits if I don't act like a self-righteous lunkhead, and the whiteness and maleness make my opinions not matter at all whatsoever.
C'mon, people, either my opinions and experiences are valid or they aren't, make up your minds and go off on me accordingly.

I'd like to know what tumbler's concensus is on the validity of the experiences of the transman. We're men, so we're clearly horrible monsters out to ruin the world, but we're trans, so we're clearly delicate flowers who need to be coddled and never ever reprimanded for making silly mistakes ever.
