Thoughts on appropriation

It is a objective good to commercialize and trivialize elements of cultural identities, especially where ethnic identities are concerned. It is not possible to maintain a liberal society where a sense of ethnic ownership is rigidly respected; therefore it is best if the sense of ownership is eroded as fast as it is formed.

Can you give an example of this?

Interesting. What do you think about instances where commercialization and a sense of ownership co-occur? I can think of a few regionally protected products in Europe and America, for example.

I think it can be objectively good for the people who grew up with that cultural identity in the first place to do that. But for those who don't understand something at all and don't want to try to, to grab it and exploit it for their own amusement, leading to the people for whom that identity is more than just a game having to deal with the aftermath that causes the identity itself to be eroded along with the sense of ownership, leaving nothing but shallow stereotypes behind for history to remember...that's pretty fucked up, to me, and the main point of struggling against appropriation beyond immature "this is mine and I don't like sharing!"
