I can understand the logic (and I appreciate it, even though ultimately I don't really care) when it comes to Western media, but if you've got a character from a Japanese video game in your arsenal, it would be pretty hard for anyone to argue against that. First, don't anime cons typically have panels and events about aspects of Japanese culture that are unrelated to anime? And second, don't most popular Japanese video games have some kind of tie-in manga or anime, even if it's obscure and/or terrible?
