TMI question.

(Anonymous) 2013-10-12 12:37 am (UTC)(link)
Ok, so I might have Overactive bladder, I pee more than any person should ever have to pee in one day. When I'm up and active during the day it's not so bad, but when I try to sleep I can have to go up to 5 times in one hour. I'm loosing sleep because of this. I followed the dietary suggestions my OBGYN(Who is also my regular doctor, who I can only see once a year.) gave me when I spoke to her about it, and it hasn't helped. I've heard about the OTC Oxytrol patch, and I have two questions for anyone here who might be experiencing the same problems.

1. Should I wait and talk to my doctor in December, or should I take a chance and see if this works?
2. I've read about reactions with Benadryl. How bad can these get? Sometimes nothing else works for my allergies, and I want to be sure this won't be a major suck fest.

Talk to your doctor first. Always talk to your doctor about this stuff before trying it.

I think I may need some clarification. You say that you only see your doctor once a year and that when you last saw your doctor, you mentioned your bladder problems ro her. I'm assuming that December will mark one year since you've seen her so am I correct in guessing that you've been dealing with this for like ten months? Because at this point there could be a serious underlying problem going on...

Here's the part where I sound like a complete idiot. :)

I've had this problem for a few years. I never really thought anything about it because my mom had a bladder so tiny as a kid she needed surgery done on it. We'd always thought I had the same thing, just not as bad, and it was just something I was going to have to deal with. One evening I realized I hadn't started having these problems until several years after I graduated high school, so the small bladder thing didn't really make sense. That's when I decided I needed to talk to my doctor about it. She thought that OAB might be the problem, but wanted me to try the dietary changes first, which haven't helped. I can't afford to make a special appointment just for this, which is why I only see her once a year to begin with.

I have the same kind of problem (although not as severe as yours, but I would have to go 5+ a day) and I'm guessing it's from being overweight and it was exacerbated when I gained weight over the summer. Maybe you could find a cheap clinic or something to talk to a professional about it? It might be the same that the fat is pushing on your bladder which causes you to have to go more often.

Unfortunately the place I go to is the closest thing we have to a cheap clinic in my area. I have gained weight over the years, but I was still really skinny when this started,(I didn't weigh enough to be able donate blood at the time.) and my weight hasn't really affected it as far as I've noticed. I'll look into it though, I've been dealing with this long enough I may not have noticed weight gain making it worse.

I happen to have a hypersensitive bladder, and before I was put on oxybutynin (Detrol) I was in the bathroom like, every twenty minutes. I didn't really have to pee, my bladder just TOLD me I had to.

It was basically like, my bladder thought it was full even if it only had like 5ml of liquid in it.

If you're not actually peeing out that much when you go, I would consider this a possibility, but if you ARE peeing regularly every time you go, is it possible you're pre-diabetes or full on diabetes?

It's different every time I go, but there is always at least a little bit.

I had to have a lot of blood test done not long ago(I was having the problem long before this.) because I needed to go on birth control pills, and everything was normal.

Hmm... I'm not sure then. :/ Sorry to be no help at all! Hopefully you get it all sorted!

I don't know about what you should do in the mean time, but the next time you see your doctor, impress upon her that you can only see her once a year and that's a long time to go without an effective treatment. You may be able to work something out where you can communicate with her by phone or email, or maybe there's a way you can see her or another doctor for cheap/free if you need more visits to figure out how to manage this. For example, maybe you can you see a specialist if she gives you a referral and that visit will be covered.

In any case, when you go, write down a list of concerns and questions, including your second question, so you can be sure you cover everything during your one visit.
