He is an egotistical asshat-- actually, that term is far too mild. Um. Egomaniacal doucheface? Same thing, essentially, but yeah. I think it's possible to enjoy a series while still hating the main character, but. All depends on the circumstances. |D;; I wouldn't worry so much about how your friends'll react to you saying you hate him, though-- I mean, I happen to like Light, but his asshattery is kind of freaking hard to ignore. It's actually one of the reasons why I like him-- HE'S INTERESTING IN A SOCIOPATHIC, CRAZY BASTARD KINDA WAY, OKAY D:-- but that could just be me.

That's true too! I definitely grew a lot from my experiences, so in some ways someone who hasn't gone through it is missing out on a lot it terms of life experience. And it's not like they won't encounter someone like that eventually, so it's better to have the skills and knowledge to do it once it does happen.
