Re: Republican /=/ Racist Homophobic Tea Partier

In terms of the beliefs and attitudes of individual people who belong to or agree with the Republican Party, you're right, they're not the same.

In terms of the observed actions, attitudes, and policies of the Republican Party as it actually exists, in power in Washington or in the states, they kind of are the same. Judging the party by its deeds, rather than its members - those are the things it does, that is what it is now.

I feel like the thing about SMG giving to the Republicans is about 10 years old, though, so even tying it to the tea party as this poster did is kind of ridiculous.

Oh, yeah, fair enough. The secret is numerous in several ways, really.

I don't think you've been paying attention. The GOP leadership has basically had it up to here with the Tea Party. This government shutdown? They didn't want it. It's a tea party thing.

That's a good way of putting it. I realize that not every Republican is a crazy Tea Partier and that the GOP as a whole is kinda chaotic. But you know what? They encouraged the extremists in their party for decades and milked them for votes and support and it's only just now backfiring on them big-time, so I have no sympathy for Republicans or people who still choose to identify as Republican after all that's happened. If they truly don't want to be lumped into the same category as the Tea Party people, then they ought to do something about it. Until then, they're part of the problem.

What else do you expect them do identify as then? They aren't liberal and don't agree with many of Democratic political stands but aren't rabid Bible thumpers either. Moderate Republican is the closest thing to identify with.

Democrats are right wing too though, it's a bit sad that you think of them as liberal. They really aren't.

America - the place where the "left wing" is right wing by any other country's definition.
