I've had a housecoat since my teens because my house was goddamned freezing all the time. My parents slept on the upper floor where it was hotter and my bedroom in the was in the basement. They paid the heating bills, so they cranked the thermostat down to cool levels upstairs which made for sub-arctic ones down.

Since then, well, I have almost no body fat and somehow seem to always find myself living with someone with considerably more padding, and it solves both the thermostat argument and saves money if I just throw on a thick robe instead of having them sweat it out.
