I seriously have no idea how you could put these two in a romantic pairing. Maybe, MAYBE they could have hatesex in mutual despair that they can't be with Buffy, but they'd never want to speak to each other again after that.

I never shipped them either. I have a friend who does and she based their relationship around the fact that Spike stayed with Xander and that they shared a look in an ep when asked who hasn't slept with each other. From that, somehow it gets all romantic.

I can only see a hatesex situation between them as well.

I always found it hilarious that so much was built from a such an obvious bit of humorous fan-baiting.

Fandom takes what it can get and milks it for every last drop. And I guess the lack of slash options once Angel left as well contributed to it.

Oh for sure. I've had/had slash 'ships built around "subtext" just as flimsy.

Poor Andrew. I'm guessing his crushes weren't as appealing to play with.

(Didn't Angel and Spike as much admit (in Angel s5 somewhere) that they'd been in a tumble at least one or twice? (or was that in Season 8?)

Oh, me too. Fandom is great for slash ships built around one second meetings and "we have occupied the same room, so we must be having sex," pairings.

Andrew even had a canon crush on Spike! He needs more fandom love.

Yes. They eluded to S/A having sex in season 5, back in the day with Drusilla and Darla. I think they mentioned it in the comic as well, but I'm not sure.

Heheh, he had a lot of crushes, iirc - Warren, Spike, Scott Bakula/Captain Archer, Timothy Dalton ...

He does need more love, if for no other reason than being the main source of Season 7 humor.

Near the end of Angel season 5, Spike tells Illyria - "Angel and I have never been intimate - well, except for that one time..." :P
