I hate when I have original fiction ideas, only to find out someone did something eerily close to it.

Write it anyway.

Think about how many people exist, and how long we've been writing stories. Everything has been done. But it hasn't been done your way. The only way to make that idea into a story is to keep going, and anyway once you start it'll probably end up different than your original plan.

That just happened to me, goddammit. Now I have to order a certain book and make sure it's not too close to the thing I'm writing.

I quite like it, actually (assuming that it's similar in style and execution as well as concept - but if it's only similar in concept, it's not that similar). It means there's probably an author out there who's very close in sensibility to me who I'll like a lot, and that's nothing to be despised.
