I think everyone should have at least one Mary-Sue/OC self-insert they can return to at the drop of a hat. They don't ever need to exist outside of your head, or you can write/draw/create an entire alternate universe where they're part of canon, whatever, so long as you have a stupidly overpowered, attractive, clever, wonderful character who everyone loves (and/or loves to hate) that you can pull up for entertainment whenever you feel like it. I think it would keep fandom from getting too serious. (Besides which, Mary Sues are a lot of fucking fun to play around with.)
