If you could study any area of knowledge/skill at your leisure, not trying to make anything out of it necessarily, just for your own enjoyment with no drawbacks, what area would you pick?

Houdini style magic. Lock picking. Illusion building. Slight of hand. Stuff like that.

I've always wanted to be able to pick a lock.

Cello. I've always wanted to learn and never had the opportunity.

Alternately, calculus.

American sign language. always wanted to learn.

I was going to say this as well! Though maybe languages in general but I would start with ASL.

You should! ASL poetry (I think it was forgottenjester who introduced me to the concept) is amazing. It's like dancing words.

Piano. I'm dying to learn to play, but I'm intimidated by the idea of learning how to read music, and a good (even cheap) practice piano/keyboard isn't cheap, and I'm scared to drop that kind of money on something that I might lose interest in. :/

You could always later sell it at pretty much the exact same price if you get one used.

Making electronic music. I've wanted to give it a try for ages but there's a real barrier to entry.

I'd probably learn to play guitar. I feel like I'd suck at it and give up easily, but if I had easy access to an instrument and lessons I'd give it a try.

Learn a new language. Maybe a couple.

History.

architecture & history/economics of fashion

Either medicine or multiple languages. Or both, can I pick both? I'm gonna pick both. They're things I'd never really want to make a career out of, but are really invaluable to know if you have the kind of time and money to just go for it.

Geology, archeology, Latin and Greek, calligraphy, photography

Math. I'd like to study something objective like that.

Carpentry. I'd love to be able to build shit with my hands/tools. I also think it would be a confidence boost to know that you're capable of creating something real and tangible.

Probably a martial art - I'm not very athletic but it's pretty much the only physical activity that looks appealing to me. And self-defense is always good to know.

Voice (I do it as a hobby rn, but I'd love to fully devote myself to it) and piano (some skills) and violin (no skills).

And then languages. Spend more time on my Japanese and then also learn maybe French, German, Slovenian, Russian, and Hindi.

Astronomy and physics. Outer space has been a fascination of mine since I was a little kid, but it's not exactly an easy field to get into, or make a living with. :P

Linguistics. Also watch/clockmaking.

Entomology. Classical physics. Greek.
