Well, I feel like The Hunger Games got so much press and fandom drama over the "love triangle", they missed the social commentary. Does no one find it disturbing how close we've actually come to an actual Hunger Games? Has anyone else heard of Kid Nation? But even the author seemed to forget at times, so.

I did. It was absolutely nothing like the Hunger Games in any way.

I remember it had a horrifyingly extensive waiver for parents that got leaked which absolved the network of any responsibility for anything anywhere.

And yeah. Kid Nation was more of a Lord of the Flies setup.

Of course it had an extensive waiver, companies are always covering every inch of their asses.

And it wasn't even Lord of the Flies. I've been to summer camps that gave the kids more freedom.

Yeah, but if you're asking someone to put their child in your care, you don't usually require them to absolve you of all responsibility for what happens to the kid.

The movies were really disappointing for this very reason. I thought it totally missed the point of the books and focused on all the wrong things.

Uuh you're kidding, right? The first film spent almost NO time on the romance aspect. Compared to the book, it was non-existent. The Katniss/Peeta thing was played almost entirely as a manipulation to save their lives, with only one line from Peeta to make it seem like, to him, it was real. And then they had a 2 second shot of Gale looking sad over the kiss. That's... it.
