I don't... get that. I agree the Weasleys had their WTF moments, but the thing is that we know them as a family, and what family isn't screwed up when you see every angle of their lives? As for the Malfoys, I do have a certain way of interpreting them that explains some of their actions, but it doesn't make them any less deplorable.

I've seen people say the Weasleys are awful because they're just as racist about Muggles as the Malfoys but in a more patronizing way. However I saw it as more that they're IGNORANT.

They may be nice and more accepting of Muggles but they're still a pureblood wizard family who still cannot completely understand them. Also the whole "we have a second cousin who's an accountant but we never talk about him" line? I think JKR said there was supposed to be a plot about that, that he was rude to them and that's why they don't talk about him. Ron was eleven when he made the comment and probably didn't understand everything that happened there.

But yeah. I've seen a few people make that argument for hating the Weasleys. Its a stupid argument imo. If the Weasleys were as racist against muggles as the Malfoys, WHY would they be putting their lives on the line to SAVE muggles during the wizarding wars, and why would they scold / punish their sons for playing a prank on a muggle boy? At worst they're ignorant which makes sense logically seeing as they're an old pureblood wizard family.
