500,000 bells from catching bugs and sharks on my AC:NL island last night.

And then I went over to Gaia and was like "oh why not, I just got paid" and took a chance on some Flynn's Booty... and opened one for 10 million gold.

In all my fictional lives, I'm rich. XD

Congrats on both! But, uhg Flynn's Booty I hate that thing so much. It has broken the MP for everyone who can't shell out the cash for it over and over again.

I'd be completely gone from Gaia already if it weren't for my hopes that they might do something with housing. I love Gaia housing, and it doesn't exist anywhere else.

Same here - I was fishing to gradually make enough gold to get some expensive items I wanted (like I saved up 6 million recently to get one of the bunny items I really, really wanted, and was so proud!), and it was slow going, but feasible, especially since some of the items were pretty steady in price... then doubled in price after the first round of Flynn's Booty. Now they've tripled and in some cases quadrupled, and I'm just like ARRGGHHHHH I HATE YOU FLYYYYYNNNNNNN. The only chance I have at those items now is if I shell out for it and get lucky. :P Which I only very rarely do (I thought it was only going to be released once initially, so I said what the heck and bought a bundle - then I realized yesterday was payday and decided to give it another shot) so I am very pleased with that 10mil payout. I figure I've used up my luck for awhile...

I did the same thing when FB first came out, only I could only afford two singles. I thought it was only going to be a one time thing too, so I didn't mind then. Now it just seems like a never ending vicious circle of "fuck you non-Gaia Cash users!" I had gotten to the point where I was watching GC videos again, to buy one of the animated windows out of the cash shop. I just don't feel like even bothering right now.

I hope your luck last a little longer. Mine is never that good.

Yeah, this exactly. I'm really just there for fishing at this point - I really enjoy fishing, and it's profitable. In fact, more so now that they added the cash shop component to alchemy - more people are buying the fish that are used in alchemy, so prices have increased by something like x5 to x10.

The one decent side effect to the recent grab for cash is that they're re-releasing all those old items they said they'd never re-release, or making recolors of them, or items that are ridiculously hard to alchemize, and people are dumb enough to actually pay $50 or more for FREAKING PIXELS, and then the gold price drops because more of them are on the market. I might actually be able to get Bom Bom/Chuu Chuu or Erebus's Moon at this rate.

That makes me wish I didn't suck at the fishing game so much.

My girlfriend said the same thing a few months back, so I was just like "Here, we're going to sit down at your computer and I'll demonstrate for you." It was helpful because I could see exactly what she was having trouble with, and point things out on the screen, and so on. I'd offer to do the same, but not quite so easy over the net. :/

Two tips that might make a huge difference, though, that I had always taken for granted until I realized why she was having problems:

- The "neutral position" for the poles is not halfway in between the two lines you're not supposed to let the fish get past. It's actually at the exact middle of the fishing screen, regardless of what kind of pole you use. If you use a strength rod at Bass'ken, and keep the cursor in the middle of the little window that shows the view of the lake and your rod and so on, you barely ever even have to move the cursor to catch the fish that are currently selling for 1000-3000 gold or more apiece. Because those fish are wusses and barely pull at all, and the lines for the strength rod are far apart towards the bottom of the screen. ;)
- Vertical cursor position doesn't matter at all - only horizontal. The casting distance is determined entirely by the gauge at the bottom of the window, and the fish is reeled in at the same speed when it's hooked no matter what you do - all you need to focus on is the side to side movement. Similarly, once you've cast the line with the two clicks (once to start the casting distance gauge, again to stop the gauge and actually cast), clicking makes no difference, so you don't have to worry if you accidentally click while hauling the cursor back and forth. It's ALL horizontal cursor position - that is literally the only thing that matters, and it only matters when there's a fish on your line.

(This is probably tl;dr useless info, but hey, I am in favor of people having fun on Gaia without having to spend real money. :D)
